Oliver Stanley Murs is an English singer, songwriter, dancer, television presenter, voice actor, and filmmaker who was born on May 14, 1984. In 2009, he rose to national prominence after finishing second in the sixth series of The X Factor. In the United Kingdom, he is signed to RCA Records and Sony Music UK, and in the United States, he is signed to Columbia Records. Douglas John Booth is an English actor who was born on July 9, 1992. He rose to prominence after his portrayal of Boy George in the BBC Two film Worried About the Boy (2010). In 2011, he appeared in the BBC versions of Great Expectations and Christopher and His Kind, as well as the Netflix film The Dirt (2019). Booth featured in Carlo Carlei’s Romeo & Juliet film adaption in 2013.

Douglas John Booth was born in Greenwich, London, in the United Kingdom. to Vivien (née De Cala), a painter, and Simon Booth, a shipping finance expert and former managing director of the shipping finance units of both CitiGroup and Deutsche Bank.  Booth’s father is of English origin, while his mother is of Spanish and Dutch descent. His older sister, Abigail, is a graduate of the Chelsea School of Art.

At the age of fifteen, Booth joined the Curtis Brown acting agency. At the age of sixteen, he landed his first professional acting part and dropped out of his AS levels in drama, media studies, and English literature.  Booth had part of his education privately, attending Solefield School, a boys’ junior independent school in the Kent town of Sevenoaks, and then Bennett Memorial Diocesan School, a Church of England school.


Booth made his professional debut in Julian Fellowes’ children’s adventure film From Time to Time (2009), which also starred Maggie Smith and Timothy Spall. Booth signed with the UTA talent agency for representation in the United States after the film’s release.  After that, he played Prince Eustace in the Channel 4 miniseries The Pillars of the Earth (2010), a mediaeval saga.

Booth rose to attention in 2010 after starring in the BBC Two drama Worried About the Boy as music artist Boy George.  He shaved his brows and wore heavy makeup for the job. During filming, Booth encountered Boy George, who said to him: “He simply understands. Something about him reminds me of myself when I was 17 years old.”

Booth then starred opposite Gillian Anderson and Ray Winstone in the BBC One production of Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations (2011) as Pip. The miniseries, which aired over the Christmas season, was a major ratings hit.The Telegraph’s Anne Billson thought it was a mistake to choose someone “so distractingly handsome” in the role of Pip: “It’s not that Douglas Booth was horrible, it’s simply that he was so distractingly charming.”

Booth featured in the teen drama LOL with Miley Cyrus and Demi Moore in 2012. During filming, he noticed the paparazzi’s fascination with co-star Miley Cyrus: “It was odd and, interestingly, not at all glamorous.” The film, which was shot in 2010, when Booth was seventeen, had a very limited theatrical distribution and received negative reviews. Booth read selected excerpts from D later that year.

Booth offers “a fairly fantastic breakout performance, providing a poignant rendition of one of literature’s greatest lovers,” according to R. Kurt Osenlund of Slant.  “And this is especially a shame because Douglas Booth as Romeo is fairly terrific and could have been better, if only he had someone to play off of,” said Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle.

He made his film debut as Shem in Darren Aronofsky’s historical epic Noah in March 2014.  Emma Watson played his character’s wife, and she met Booth in 2009 while filming a Burberry campaign: “Doug has an old-manly air about him, which he had even back then. He is well aware of his identity. He isn’t intimidated, doesn’t hold back, and is brave in general.”

Booth has been supporting since 2015. He has travelled to Iraq to visit refugees and internally displaced persons. Booth has highlighted the work of UNHCR in media interviews and has helped raise awareness of the global refugee crisis via his social media channels. Booth has supported UNHCR fundraising events.
