Hassan Whiteside is a professional basketball player in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Sacramento Kings. He was drafted in the second round of the 2010 NBA draught by the Sacramento Kings after playing college basketball for the Marshall Thundering Herd. Whiteside was nominated to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team after joining the Miami Heat in 2014.

Whiteside was raised by a single mother and six siblings. He attended Hunter Huss High School, Ashbrook High School, and Forestview High School in Gastonia, North Carolina, where he was born and reared.

Whiteside moved in with his father in Newark, New Jersey, for his junior year of high school in 2006–07. He played at East Side High School. According to Scout.com, Whiteside is the No. 19 centre in the 2009 class. Rivals.com has him ranked as the No. 87 recruit in the Class of 2009. As a high schooler, he participated in the 2009 Reebok All-American preview gameand was a member of the United Celtics (NC) AAU Team and the New Jersey Panthers AAU Team.

Whiteside was involved in a brawl with Alex Len of the Phoenix Suns on March 2, 2015. The NBA penalised Whiteside $15,000 the next day for his role in the altercation. Marshall beat over UNC Charlotte, South Carolina, Kentucky, Auburn, and Mississippi State for Whiteside’s attention. Whiteside arrived at Marshall University off the radar at the start of the 2009–10 season, but he quickly gained national prominence. After a 14-point, 17-rebound performance, he was featured in ESPN The Magazine’s College Basketball column on December 28.

On January 13 and February 27, Whiteside would record his second and third triple-doubles of the season, both against the UCF Knights. [10][11] He concluded the season with 182 blocked shots, breaking the C-USA record for most blocked shots in a single season held by Tulsa’s Jerome Jordan, as well as the Marshall record for most blocked shots in a single season and career.

Whiteside signed with the Miami Heat on November 24, 2014.  He was deployed to the Sioux Falls Skyforce on December 13, but was recalled two days later. In an 88–84 win over the Brooklyn Nets on January 4, 2015, he had his first career double-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks.

Whiteside set a career best with 25 points in a 109–89 win over the Houston Rockets on November 1, 2015.  In a loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on November 17, he had his second career triple-double with 22 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 blocks. He became the seventh player in NBA history to record multiple triple-doubles in points, rebounds, and blocks.  In a game against the New York Knicks on November 23, On January 11, 2015, Whiteside set a career high with 23 points, 16 rebounds, and two blocks.

The Sacramento Kings selected Whiteside with the 33rd overall choice in the 2010 NBA draught.  He appeared in the Kings’ season opening against the Minnesota Timberwolves, getting two fouls in two minutes,before missing the rest of the season.  He played with the Reno Bighorns, the Kings’ D-League club, from November 29 to January 9,

Whiteside was acquired by the NBA Development League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce on December 14, 2012.  He was moved to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on January 4, 2013.  In late April, he left the Vipers before the playoffs and joined the Lebanese team Amchit Club.

Whiteside left Lebanon in early May after three games with Amchit and joined the Sichuan Blue Whales of the Chinese National Basketball League.Whiteside joined the Grizzlies’ D-League club, the Iowa Energy, in November 2014 after spending Summer League and preseason with the Toronto Raptorsand the Memphis Grizzlies Due to many injuries, the Grizzlies brought him up on November 19 to help fill up their roster against Toronto. The next day, he was waiveand returned to Iowa.

In a 98–95 win over the Denver Nuggets on January 15, 2016, Whiteside earned his third career triple-double with 19 points, 17 rebounds, and 11 blocked shots. He missed six games between January 22 and February 2 due to a left hip ailment.
