Thomas Jacob “Jack” Black is an American actor, comedian, singer, and songwriter who was born on August 28, 1969. He is best known for his roles in The Cable Guy (1996), Cradle Will Rock (1999), Orange County (2002), School of Rock (2003), Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny (2006), The Holiday (2006), Be Kind Rewind (2008), Year One (2009), Bernie (2011), Sex Tape (2014), and The House with a Clock in Its Walls (2014).

Black  was born on August 28, 1969, in Santa Monica, California, to satellite engineers Thomas William Black and Judith Love Cohen.  He grew up in the California beach town of Hermosa Beach. His mother was a writer and worked on the Hubble Space Telescope.  Through his mother, he has three older half-siblings: scientist Neil Siegel, Howard Siegel, and Rachel Siegel.  His mother was a wonderful woman.

When Black was ten years old, his parents split, and his father stopped practising Judaism.  Black relocated to Culver City with his father and saw his mother on a regular basis. He first appeared in a commercial for the Activision game Pitfall! in 1982 when he was a child. Black’s parents put him in the Poseidon School for high school, a private secondary school for struggling kids.


At the age of 13, Black appeared in his first television commercial for the video game Pitfall! in 1982.  In 1987, Black became a member of the Actors’ Gang, a theatre company created by UCLA students including Tim Robbins, and he appeared in a number of stage shows.  Small appearances in prime time television, such as Life Goes On, Northern Exposure, Mr. Show, Picket Fences, and The Gong Show, launched Black’s adult career.

Black began appearing in tiny cinema roles after Robbins cast him in Bob Roberts, including Airborne (1993), Demolition Man, Waterworld, The Fan, The Cable Guy, Mars Attacks!, Dead Man Walking, The Jackal, Crossworlds, Enemy of the State, and others. He had a brief role as a security guard in True Romance, but the scene was cut.

In 2000, Black co-starred as a rowdy employee in John Cusack’s character’s record store in the film High Fidelity, which he considers his breakout performance.  Shallow Hal, Nacho Libre, Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny, Year One, and Gulliver’s Travels were among his first prominent roles. He garnered great acclaim for his leading performance in the critically acclaimed School of Rock.

In Peter Jackson’s 2005 version of King Kong, he played the obsessed filmmaker Carl Denham, a performance he modelled on Orson Welles. He voiced the title part in Kung Fu Panda, which grossed US$20.3 million on its opening day, June 6, 2008, as well as Kung Fu Panda 2 and Kung Fu Panda 3; this is his favourite job, and he credits co-star and two-time Oscar winner Andy Serkis for his guidance.

In 2004, Black appeared as a guest star in the inaugural episode of Tom Goes to the Mayor, a Cartoon Network Adult Swim show. [29] In a faux movie within the programme, he starred alongside Cloris Leachman and Jessica Alba in the post-Super Bowl episode of The Office.  In 2010, Black made a guest appearance on Communityand also appeared in an episode of Nickelodeon’s iCarly titled “iStart a Fan Wrath.”

In October 2001, Black competed in the celebrity edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? alongside Denis Leary, Jimmy Kimmel, and others, and won a reward of US$125,000.  He hosted the 2008 Spike Video Game Awards on December 14th. The Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards and Acceptable.TV have both been hosted by Black.  When Led Zeppelin was chosen as one of the top 20 bands of all time, he paid respect to them.


In addition to Kung Fu Panda,Black has voiced Milo, the pleasant owner of the competing comic book store, in “Husbands and Knives” from The Simpsons, which aired on November 18, 2007.  In the heavy metal-themed action-adventure video game Brütal Legend, he provided the voice of the primary character, roadie Eddie Riggs.
