Katherine Victoria Litwack is better known by her stage name Kat Dennings, is an actress from the United States. She is most recognized for her performances as Max Black on the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls (2011–2017), Darcy Lewis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero films Thor (2011), and Thor: The Dark World (2013), and WandaVision on Disney+ (2021). She has been performing from the age of two and has appeared in two films.

Katherine Victoria Litwack was born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, on June 13, 1986. Her mother, Ellen Judith Litwack, is a poet and speech therapist, and her father, Gerald J. Litwack, is a molecular pharmacologist, college professor, and chairman. Dennings is the youngest of five brothers and sisters. Her family is Jewish.  Dennings grew up in Penn Cottage, a historic home on the outskirts of Philadelphia.

Dennings made her professional debut in the episode “Hot Child in the City” of HBO’s Sex and the City in 2000, playing an obnoxious 13-year-old who hires Samantha to handle publicity for her bat mitzvah.  She then starred in the short-lived WB sitcom Raising Dad from 2001 to 2002 as Sarah, a 15-year-old raised by her widowed father (Bob Saget) .


Dennings continued to work on television, appearing as a teen whose boyfriend goes missing in Without a Trace and Less Than Perfect in 2003. Sudbury, a CBS pilot about a family of modern-day witches based on the 1998 film Practical Magic, was cast in February 2004, however the series was not picked up.  Dennings had a recurring role as Zoe Butcher on ER from 2005 to 2006.

Family Life of Kat Dennings:

Dennings made her feature film debut as Sloane, a gloomy piano student, in Hilary Duff’s Raise Your Voice in 2004.  In 2005, she had supporting roles in The 40-Year-Old Virgin as Catherine Keener’s character’s daughter and Down in the Valley as April.  Dennings starred alongside Martin Lawrence in the crime comedy picture Big Momma’s House 2, in which he played a rebellious adolescent.

In 2008, Dennings acted in Charlie Bartlett, a film about a privileged adolescent (Anton Yelchin) who works as a psychiatrist at his new public high school. Susan Gardner, Bartlett’s love interest and the daughter of the school’s principal, was played by her (Robert Downey, Jr.).  Dennings played Mona, a pierced feminist sorority girl, in The House Bunny that year.  She also had a role in the teen drama

Dennings and other rising stars were included in Vanity Fair’s August 2009 issue, reenacting scenes from classic Depression-era films, hers being Sydney Pollack’s They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? (1969).  Following that, Dennings was cast in the romantic comedy picture Liars (A to E). However, due to budget cuts at Miramax Films, the Richard Linklater-directed production was cancelled.

She starred in the indie feature Daydream Nation the following year as a teenager who travels from the city to a strange rural community and is involved in a love triangle with her high school teacher (Josh Lucas) and a young drug dealer (Reece Thompson).Michael Golbach wrote and directed the film, which began filming in Vancouver in early 2010. Dennings made his first appearance in a mu.

Dennings landed a role in 2 Broke Girls, a CBS sitcom written and produced by Michael Patrick King and comedian Whitney Cummings, in February 2011.  The show premiered on September 19, 2011 and follows the lives of two unemployed young women. Dennings plays a fierce outspoken teenager from Brooklyn, while Beth Behrs co-stars as a Manhattan heiress who lost her inheritance.  Dennings loved the concept of reassignment.


Dennings co-starred with Chad Michael Murray and Rupert Friend in the 2012 drama film To Write Love on Her Arms (formerly titled Renee). Renee Yohe, a Florida teen who suffered with substance addiction and self-injury and was the inspiration for the group To Write Love on Her Arms, was played by her. The film’s production began in February 2011 in Orlando, Florida.
