Kathryn Mary “Kate” Garraway is an English television and radio presenter who was born on May 4, 1967. She is most well-known for her appearances on ITV Breakfast, which she has portrayed on television. Garraway is the host of both the mid-morning programme on Smooth Radio and the ITV Breakfast programme Good Morning Britain. Both of these shows may be heard weekdays. Previously, she was the presenter of a number of daytime shows, such as Daybreak (from 2010 to 2014), Lorraine (from 2010 to 2014), and GMTV (2000-2010). Between the years 2014 and 2016, Garraway served as a guest host for BBC One’s coverage of the National Lottery Draws.
In 1994, Garraway began working for ITV Central as a production journalist, reporter, and news presenter for the South edition of ITV News Central on ITV Central. After being “talent found” by a manager who saw her deliver a three-minute bulletin on ITV Central, she joined ITV Meridian in 1996 as a co-presenter for the South East edition of ITV News Meridian on ITV Meridian. This was one of the stations in the ITV Meridian network. In 1997, she aired events on BBC News 24 such as the signing of the Good Friday Agreement, which led to her gaining widespread notoriety in the United Kingdom. Garraway became a co-host of Sunrise on Sky News with Martin Stanford in the year 1998.
Garraway became a member of the GMTV team in September 2000, and since then he has co-hosted GMTV Today with Andrew Castle every Friday (and Thursdays later on). Later on, Garraway joined forces with Fiona Phillips and Emma Crosby to co-host the show they were all hosting. When GMTV was reintroduced in 2009, she was one of the co-hosts of the show with Ben Shephard. Her presenting schedule included Mondays, Tuesdays, and alternating Wednesdays. During the period that Garraway worked at GMTV, she shared hosting duties with Eammon Holmes, John Stapleton, and Dan Lobb, among others. On August 31, 2010, she had her last performance as a performer.
In 2004, she was a host on the show Too Many Cooks for one season. On the episode of “The People’s Quiz” that aired in 2007, she served as the questioner. Garraway served as host of ITV’s “The Biggest Loser” in the year 2009. Later, Davina McCall took her position as the host of the show. On the show “Wall of Fame,” which David Walliams hosted, Garraway served as a frequent panelist. In September of 2010, she was promoted to the position of entertainment editor for Daybreak on ITV Breakfast, which was GMTV’s replacement. She took over as the primary presenter on an interim basis on the 6th of December, 2011, succeeding Christine Bleakly in that role.
It was reported on May 4, 2012 that Lorraine Kelly will take over for Bleakly on a permanent basis beginning in September of that same year. On Friday, August 3, 2012, it was disclosed that Garraway had signed a new contract to present each Friday in the absence of Kelly. Kelly had been absent from work since the previous week. It was announced on February 15, 2014 that Kelly will also host the Lorraine show on Fridays. On the 3rd of March in 2014,
It was disclosed that Daybreak will be cancelled and Good Morning Britain would take its place, first as a newsreader on Fridays. However, along with these changes came the announcement that Lorraine Kelly would be presenting Lorraine five days a week, which meant that Garraway would no longer continue to host Kelly’s programme on Fridays. This was because Garraway’s role was rendered obsolete by the changes. Ahead of her debut on Good Morning Britain the following month, she presented the last episodes of Daybreak and Lorraine on April 25, 2014, her last day on the air.
Garraway has decreased the frequency of her appearances on Lorraine since since she started working at Good Morning Britain. When Ben Shephard reduced the number of times he appeared on ITV Breakfast each week to only two, Garraway once again became an interim primary presenter of the programme. This meant that Garraway presented the show four times a week until Piers Morgan joined the show later that year. Garraway is still a part of the Good Morning Britain show that airs every Friday with Ben Shepherd, and he still reads the news every Thursday alongside Susanna Reid and Shepherd.
Between the months of March 2014 and November 2016, Garraway filled in as host for sporadic episodes of The National Lottery Draws on BBC One. In September of 2017, she appeared in a cameo role on the television show Hollyoaks. In the fifth season of Strictly Come Dancing, Garraway competed as a contestant with the professional dancer Anton du Bake. Garraway finished in eighth place out of the 14 couples despite receiving the lowest score from the judges in every week but one. She was repeatedly saved by the public vote prior to being eliminated in week seven. Despite receiving the lowest score from the judges in every week but one, Garraway finished in eighth place.
Garraway filed a lawsuit against the Sunday Mirror in February 2008 when the newspaper published an image of her hugging du Bake and insinuated that the two were having an affair, despite the fact that both she and du Bake denied that this was the case. The BBC Radio Oxford was where Garraway got her start in the broadcasting industry, and by 1994, she was already working as a trainee journalist for Independent Television News. Garraway was a co-host for two episodes of “Weekend Breakfast” that aired on August 18 and 19, 2012 respectively (with Colin Paterson). Repeated broadcasts of “Weekend Breakfast” with Colin Paterson were done by Garraway during the weekend of September 8. She filled in for Andrew Castle on LBC Radio on October 6, 2013, when he had a programme scheduled.
Since March of 2014, Garraway has been hosting a programme on Smooth Radio that airs in the middle of the morning on weekdays. In 1998, Garraway tied the knot with Ian Rumsey, her former supervisor at ITV Meridian, in her hometown of Abingdon, which is located in Oxford shire. In April of 2002, they got a divorce. Garraway wed Derek Draper in a ceremony that took place in Camden, London, in September of 2005. Peter Mandelson’s former political adviser, Draper, was at the core of the controversy that became known as “Lobby gate.” Draper worked for Mandelson while he was a cabinet minister for the Labour Party. On March 10, 2006, the couple welcomed their first child, a girl, into the world at Hammersmith and Fulham, which is located in London.
Garraway reportedly added an addition to her property in north London without first obtaining planning approval from the local council, as stated in a story that was published in the Daily Mail. She submitted a retroactive planning application in an effort to please them, but it was ultimately unsuccessful, and they instructed her to reduce the size of the addition. Make-A-Wish Foundation has Garraway serving as a charity ambassador for the organisation. The first book she ever published was named “The Joy of Big Knickers (or Learning to Love the Rest of Your Life),” and it was launched on March 9, 2017.
Kate Garraway worked as the operator of the shrink-wrapping machine at a toilet-roll manufacturer during the year that she took off between attending Fitzhenry’s school and beginning her studies at Bath University. After finishing her degree, Kate Garraway went right into the media industry to start her career. She soon transitioned from radio, where she worked at BBC Radio Oxford, to a variety of positions in regional television, including hosting Meridian Tonight from 1995 to 1997. After that, Garraway worked for BBC News 24 and, subsequently, for Sky News, where one of her responsibilities at Sky News was to serve as the host of the morning programme Sunrise. In the year 2000, Kate Garraway became a host on GMTV, where she was responsible for The News Hour as well as GMTV Today.
Her other TV credits include hosting shows like “Too Many Cooks” on ITV and “The People’s Quiz” on the BBC National Lottery. An intriguing article published in The Telegraph about Kate Garraway and Derek Draper mentioned that in 2004, “a half-eaten banana signed by the GMTV presenter Kate Garraway fetched £1,650 in an eBay auction… a few days after the eBay shenanigans, a businessman paid £3,000 for the simple pleasure of watching 37-year-old Garraway eat a banana.”
