He is one of country music’s most popular touring stars, consistently selling out locations where he performs.  His 2007 Flip-Flop Summer Tour was the year’s most successful rural road tour.  Chesney was named Entertainer of the Year by the Country Music Association in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008. He also won the Academy of Country Music’s New Male Vocalist of the Year award in 1997, the Top Male Vocalist of the Year award in 2002, and the Triple Crown Award in 2005. On May 18, 2008, he received his fourth straight Entertainer of the Year award from the Academy of Country Music.

Chesney was born on March 26, 1968, in St. Mary’s Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee, and reared in Luttrell. He has English and Irish ancestors. He is the son of Karen Chandler, a hair stylist in the Knoxville area, and David Chesney, a former elementary school teacher. Jennifer Chandler, Chesney’s younger sister, is his only sibling. Chesney graduated from Gibbs High School in 1986.

Family Life of Kenny Chesney:

For Christmas, he received his first guitar, “The Terminor,” and began teaching himself to play it. Chesney earned his bachelor’s degree in advertising from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, where he was a part of the ETSU Bluegrass Program and the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.  In 1989, he recorded a self-released demo album at Bristol, Virginia’s Classic Recording Studio.

While performing at small clubs in Johnson City, he sold 1,000 copies of the CD and used the proceeds to help him purchase a new guitar. He moved to Nashville after graduating from East Tennessee State University in 1990 and performed at a number of local venues, including The Bluebird Cafe. [8] He took up residence at The Turf, a honky tonk saloon in the city’s historic district, as a regular performer. [nee citation.

Clay Bradley, BMI’s chief of writer relations, referred Chesney to his buddy Troy Tomlinson at Opryland Music Group in 1992, saying: “Today, I met this youngster from East Tennessee. He’s a great singer and songwriter, and I think you’ll appreciate him as a person as well.”  During his audition for Tomlinson, Chesney sang five songs. Tomlinson’s reaction was awe-inspiring.

In My Wildest Dreams, Chesney’s debut album, was released in April 1994 on the indie Capricorn Records label. “Whatever It Takes” and “The Tin Man,” the album’s first two singles, both charted in the lower reaches of the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks list in the United States. Before Capricorn Records’ country music division in Nashville folded later that year, the record sold about 10,000 copies.

Chesney subsequently signed with BNA Records and released All I Need to Know, his second studio album, in 1995. Three singles were released from the album. “Fall in Love” and the title single both charted in the top ten, although “Grandpa Told Me So” only reached number 23.  In the same year, Chesney co-wrote the tune “When He Was My Age” from Confederate Railroad’s album When and Where.  Chesney used the fiddle.

Me and You, Chesney’s third studio album and second on a major label, was released in 1996. [10] The album’s first single, “Back In My Arms Again,” charted just outside the Top 40 on the country charts, while the title track (which Chesney had previously recorded on his previous album) and “When I Close My Eyes” (which had previously been recorded by Keith Palmer on his 1991 debut album and then by Larry Stewart) charted just outside the Top 100.
