Niles Hollowell-Dhar is an Indian-American musician, songwriter, record producer, and DJ better known by his stage as Kshmr (pronounced “Kashmir” and stylised as KSHMR). In DJ Mag’s 2015 Top 100 DJs vote, he was placed 23rd and was named the year’s best newcomer. In the same survey, he rose to 12th place in 2016 and 2017,, and he is expected to do so again in 2020.

Hollowell-Dhar was born in the city of Berkeley in the state of California. His father is an Indian Kashmiri Hindu who immigrated to the United States, while his mother is an American. His stage name comes from the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir (now a union territory), where his paternal ancestors are from. “Jammu” and “Kashmir,” two of his tracks, are likewise named after the former state.
Hollowell-Dhar was a founding member of the Cataracs , a hip-hop production duo with high school friend David Singer-Vine that released hits like “Like a G6” with Far East Movement and “Bass Down Low” with DEV, as well as co-producing others like Selena Gomez’s second single from her debut album “Stars Dance.” Hollowell-Dhar continued to produce when Singer-Vine left the group in 2012.
Hollowell-Dhar began producing electro house music under the moniker KSHMR in 2014.  He charted on Beatport under this moniker. He co-produced ‘Tsunami’ by DVBBS and Borgeous, as well as ‘Stampede’ by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Dvbbs, and Borgeous, before releasing music under the KSHMR moniker. Hollowell-first Dhar’s single, “Megalodon,” was released on February 24, 2014 by Spinnin’ Reco.

Hollowell-name Dhar’s was unknown until Tisto unveiled him at the Ultra Music Festival in 2015. His song “Secrets,” which he co-wrote with Tisto and Vassy was a smash hit, topping buzz rankings and reaching the top of the Beatport Chart. Hollowell-Dhar stated in June 2015 that he would conduct a remix contest for his tune “Jammu”with Spinnin’ Records — the first of its kind.
On May 13, 2016, he published his first EP, “The Lion Across the Field.” On the mainstage of the Tomorrowland music festival on July 23, 2016, he performed his maiden set. On September 5, 2016, he released “Invisible Children,” a collaboration with Tigerlily. “The project was already off to a wonderful start,” Hollowell-Dhar stated. I offered my thoughts, and it all came together fairly quickly.
Hollowell-Dhar and Tisto collaborated on “Harder,” which was published on Spinnin’ Records on June 16, 2017. “Festival of Lights,” a collaboration with Maurice West, was the first song released by KSHMR’s label, Dharma Worldwide. The theme of “Festival of Lights” is highly influenced by Indian culture. On July 28, 2017, Hollowell-Dhar released “Kolkata,” a duet featuring JDG and Marvin Gaye.
On February 16, 2018, KSHMR released “House Of Cards,” which includes Sidnie Tipton, who also provided vocals for “Wildcard.”While the music lacks Hollowell-signature Dhar’s big room elements, it is influenced by pop and acoustic elements, such as guitar chords in the song’s break.
On August 3, 2018, 7 Skies released “Neverland,” which combined elements from the bounce and big room house genres. The duo previously collaborated on a sample pack called Symphony-Serum Hybrid Orchestra for Splice, a music creation website. His next track, “Good Vibes Soldier,” was released, co-produced with Israeli psytrance combo Vini Vici and featuring reggaeton and rap elements.
Hollowell-Dhar announced the launch of a new educational Dharma Worldwide portal with tutorials, templates, and samples on June 24, 2019. Following that, on June 28, 2019, he released “The People,” a big room duet with Australian producer Timmy Trumpet. On January 15 and February 26, Hollowell-Dhar released the first and second singles from his debut studio album Harmonica Andromeda, “The World We Left Behind” with Karra and “Around the World” with producer Noumenn and uncredited vocals by Ivy. The rest of the album, which includes 11 songs and three interludes, was released on March 19.
