Murs’ single “Wrapped Up,” featuring Travie McCoy of Gym Class Heroes, was released on November 16, 2014, and reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100. This was the first single off his new album Never Been Better, which debuted at number one on September 24, 2014, and was quickly followed by a second single, “Up,” starring American singer Demi Lovato, which reached the top four. Murs also stated that he will be returning to the United States.


Murs is the son of Vicky-Lynn and Pete Murs, and was born in Witham, Essex.] He has a sister, Fay Murs, and a twin brother, Ben Murs. Edward and Kathe Murs, his great grandparents, were Latvian immigrants.  He went to Howbridge Junior School in Witham and Notley High School in Braintree, Essex,, where he played striker for the football team.

Murs auditioned for the sixth season of The X Factor in 2009, performing “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder. “The simplest yes I’ve ever given,” claimed judge Simon Cowell. Murs sang the song Your Song by Elton John at bootcamp. He performed “She’s the One” on the first live show and “A Fool in Love” on the second, which Cowell hailed as “out of this world.” He, too, was absent for the third week.

He was in the bottom two with John and Edward following a performance of “Fastlove” in week 7. Murs was sent to the quarter-finals by Cowell, Cheryl Cole, and Dannii Minogue, while John & Edward were sent to the quarter-finals by Louis Walsh. However, voting figures revealed that John and Edward garnered more votes than Murs, implying that if Minogue forced a tie, John and Edward would win.


On the 12th of December, he performed “Superstition,” his audition song, and Cowell commented that putting him in the final 12 was “the best gamble I have ever taken in my life.” Murs then performed a duet of “Angels” with British artist Robbie Williams, in which Williams fluffed his lines when he stepped on stage to join Murs and entered at the wrong time, singing the song’s second line.

He performed the winner’s song, “The Climb,” in his final performance on the show. Cole informed him, “You ripped it right out of your soul. That’s the first time I’ve ever heard you sing like that. It was a lovely rendition of the song, in my opinion.”He finished second after losing the final to Joe McElderry the next day.  On the 15th of December, two days after the final, it was announced that Cowell would be leaving the show.

Murs revealed that the album’s first single, “Please Don’t Let Me Go,” would be released on August 27, 2010, after the release of the accompanying music video.  Murs wrote the song with the help of other songwriters Claude Kelly and Steve Robson, while Future Cut produced the track.
