Dreaming Out Loud, OneRepublic’s debut album, was released in 2007. Its main track, “Apologize,” was remixed by Timbaland and went on to become a massive international hit, charting at number one in sixteen countries and garnering them a Grammy nomination.  The success of the second single, “Stop and Stare,” was similar to that of the first. The Recording Industry Association of America later certified the record Platinum.

Native (2013), OneRepublic’s third album, debuted at number four on the Billboard 200, becoming the band’s first top ten album and highest-charting album to date. The album’s first single, “If I Lose Myself,” reached the top ten in various countries, while the third single, “Counting Stars,” became the band’s most successful hit in recent years, charting in the top five in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

Oh My My, OneRepublic’s fourth studio album, was released on October 7, 2016, and featured a number of artists, including Cassius, Peter Gabriel, and Santigold. It was preceded by the songs “Wherever I Go,” released on May 13, 2016, and “Kids,” released on August 12, 2016, and was hailed by critics and the band as a departure from prior albums. The band’s latest album was published in 2017.

Family Life of OneRepublic:

Ryan Tedder and Zach Filkins met during their senior year at Colorado Springs Christian High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and established the first incarnation of what became OneRepublic in 1996.  Filkins and Tedder decided to form a band while driving home and discussing their favourite musicians, including Fiona Apple, Peter Gabriel, and U2. They enlisted the help of a few.

Tedder and Filkins reunited in Los Angeles in 2002 and established Republic, their second band. Tedder, who had already established himself as a songwriter and record producer, had persuaded Filkins to leave Chicago. The band joined with Columbia Records nine months later. The band finally settled on Tedder on vocals, Filkins on lead guitar and supporting vocals, and Eddie on bass after a few lineup changes.

The band spent two and a half years in the studio, recording their first full-length album. Columbia Records dropped OneRepublic two months before the album was set to be released (with “Sleep” as the lead single). Tedder claims that the band was the number-one unsigned artist on MySpace at the time, and he credits the platform with keeping the band together.

Dreaming Out Loud, OneRepublic’s debut album, was released on November 20, 2007, and debuted at number 14 in the US with 75,000 first-week sales.  The album received a mixed to poor response from critics. The album received a mediocre review from Allmusic, which stated that it “sounds derivative” but also “sounds unified and effortlessly agreeable.”  The album received a bad review from Robert Christgau.

“Apologize,” their first single, was released in its original form from Dreaming Out Loud. Timbaland, one of the most well-known artists/producers at the time, approached the band about being featured on a compilation album he was working on called Shock Value.  Timbaland slightly reworked the song to give it a more R&B sound, adding backup singers, a guitar bass line, a new drum section, and a new chorus.

It has since received over 2x Platinum certification in six nations around the world, including 4x Platinum in Australia. The band received their first Grammy nomination for best pop performance by a group or duo for the song. “Stop and Stare,” the album’s second single, was released in March 2008 and hit the top ten in eight countries worldwide, including number four in the United Kingdom and number one in the United States.
