Geoffrey Royce Rojas (born May 11, 1989), better known by his stage name Prince Royce, is a Dominican singer and songwriter who was born in the United States. Royce developed an interest in music from a young age, and during his adolescent years, he began experimenting with music and composing poetry. Royce met Andrés Hidalgo, who would later become his manager, when he was nineteen years old. Hidalgo later introduced Royce to record producer Sergio George, who immediately took Royce under his wing.

Royce released his self-titled debut studio album in March 2010, which had two commercially successful singles, “Stand by Me” and “Corazón Sin Cara.” Both songs charted at number one on the Billboard Tropical Songs chart in the United States, while “Corazón Sin Cara” charted at number one on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart in the United States.

Soy el Mismo, his third studio album, was released on October 8, 2013, and was preceded by the single “Darte un Beso.” Royce was nominated for his second Latin Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Tropical Album for the album. Geoffrey Royce Rojas grew up in The Bronx, a borough of New York City, New York, where he was born on May 11, 1989. Born to Dominican parents, he is the second oldest of four children. Ramón Rojas, his father, was a taxi driver, and ngela de León, his mother, worked at a beauty shop. Royce was a member of the elementary school choir, competed in talent competitions as a child, and was thirty years old when he died.


Royce inked a record deal with Sony Music Entertainment in April 2013 to release his third Spanish-language studio album under Sony Music Latin and his debut English-language recording under RCA Records. This followed Royce’s sour relationship with Top Stop, which resulted in two lawsuits, with the label suing Royce for unpaid royalties.

prince royce began composing music with a collaborator named José Chusán, commonly known as “Jino,” when he was fifteen years old. “Jino and Rohotoyce, El Do Real” was another moniker for the combo. Royce began recording music with longtime friend and record producer Donzell Rodrguez and Vincent Outerbridge, known as “L Snipe & Vinny,” when he was sixteen years old.

On March 2, 2010, Royce released his self-titled debut studio album. The album was mostly produced by Hidalgo and Sergio George, with Royce serving as a co-producer.  Hidalgo is recognised for the “crisp production job, which is frequently sparse yet adds traces of urban sounds here and there,” according to AllMusic’s Jason Birchmeier.  The album debuted on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart shortly after its release.

Royce was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Tropical Album for the album in 2011. Royce performed “Stand by Me” with Ben E. King, the song’s original artist, during the awards show. Royce won three wins in the Tropical category at the 2011 Premio Lo Nuestro Awards, including Male Artist of the Year, New Soloist or Group of the Year, and Song of the Year for “S.”

Prince Royce’s second studio album, Phase II, was released on April 10, 2012.  The 13-track CD featured a wide range of musical styles, including bachata and mariachi.  There were songs in both English and Spanish on the album, as well as tunes that were not typical of bachata music.  “Las Cosas Pequeas” started at number one on the Billboard Tropical Songs list and climbed to number three.


The lead song from Royce’s next studio album, “Darte un Beso,” was released on July 15, 2013. It was certified three times platinum in the Latin market and reached number one on numerous Latin charts. Soy el Mismo, his third album, was released on October 8, 2013, and peaked at number 14 on the Billboard 200. Royce received his second nomination for Best Contemporary Tropical Record with this album.
