Tremaine Aldon Neverson, better known by his stage name Trey Song is an American singer-songwriter and actor who was born on November 28, 1984. I Gotta Make It, his debut album, was released in 2005 by Atlantic Records. Tremaine Aldon Never on was born in Petersburg, Virginia, on November 28, 1984.  He is the son of April (Gholson) Tucker and Claude Never son Jr., who were both seventeen at the time of his birth.  His mother and stepfather raised him as a military brat, Due to his timidity, Song had no ambitions for a musical career as a child, claiming, “Singing wasn’t a reality for me until other people started not caring.”

At the age of 14, he noticed his singing potential. He was hesitant to sing at first, but with the support of friends and family, he began performing in high school. Song produced several mixtapes under the identity Prince of Virginia while recording his debut album in 2004. One of the mixtapes included “Open the Closet,” a “response tune” to R. Kelly’s “Trapped in the Closet.” Song gained prominence as a result of the song.  I Gott  Make It, his debut album, was released on July 26, 2005. It opened at #20 on the Billboard 200 and sold 40,000 copies in its first week.

It was a hit in the R&B/urban scene, but it didn’t catch on in mainstream music. “Gott Go,” the album’s second and final single, was released in July 2005 and peaked at #67 on the Hot 100 and #11 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, outperforming his initial hit in both the R&B/urban and mainstream communities. Song began working on a follow-up album to his debut in mid-2006 with longstanding collaborator Troy Taylor, as well as successful Bryan-Michael Cox, Danja, Stargate, and R. Kelly. His second album was preceded with the release of the lead song, “Wonder Woman,” in February 2007. It charted at #54 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, but did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100. His second album was pushed back from May to October 2007 due to the single’s failure. The second single from the album, “Can’t Help But Wait,” was released in August 2007 to promote his second album.

Trey began working on his third studio album in 2008 with Bryan-Michael Cox, Sean Garrett, Stargate, and Troy Taylor, with the goal of making it more mature than his previous two. Song published a mixtape dubbed Anticipation in June 2009 through his blog, which included songs from his third album, before releasing his third album.  Trey released another mixtape in the summer of 2009, titled.

“I Need a Girl,” the album’s debut single, was released in April 2009 and charted at #5 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and #59 on the Hot 100, making it an R&B/urban hit but not a mainstream hit. Song’s’ third Top 20 hit was “Successful,” a promotional track featuring rapper Drake that was released in June 2009 and reached #17 on the Hot 100. The single also served as the second and last instalment in the trilogy.
