Ursula Burns: 5 Ways to Contact Her (Phone Number, Email, House address, Autograph Request, Social media profiles)

Ursula Burns is an American business leader who was born on September 20, 1958 in New York City, New York, United States. She served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) (2009–16) and Chairman (2010–17) of the Xerox Corporation, a multinational document management and business services firm. She was the first African American woman to serve as CEO of a Fortune 500 company and the first female to accede to the position of CEO of such a company in succession after another female CEO. She also held the record for being the first female to accede to the position of CEO of such a company in succession after another female CEO.

Burns spent his childhood in a housing complex for people with low incomes located on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. She was the second of three children who were raised by a single mother who ran a home day care centre and took jobs ironing clothes and cleaning houses to make money so that Burns could attend Cathedral High School, a Roman Catholic preparatory school. Later in life, Burns attended the Polytechnic Institute of New York University in Brooklyn to get a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 1980. During his time there, he demonstrated exceptional proficiency in mathematics.

She began her studies at Columbia University for a master’s degree in mechanical engineering in the same year that she began working for Xerox as a summer intern in mechanical engineering through the company’s graduate engineering programme for underrepresented minorities. As a result of her participation in this programme, Xerox paid a portion of her educational costs. Burns began working full-time for Xerox shortly after earning his master’s degree in 1981. He was soon promoted to a position in the company’s research and development department.

Beginning in 1992, she had a variety of positions in management and engineering until being promoted to the position of senior vice president of corporate strategic services in the year 2000. In this job, she was responsible for overseeing production operations. Burns was subsequently given the chance to widen her leadership in the areas of global research, product development, marketing, and delivery when she was given the post, and she was finally promoted to the position of president of Xerox in 2007. After another two years, she was promoted to the position of chief executive officer, and in 2010, she was made chairman of the board.

When Burns became CEO of Xerox, the company was floundering with falling sales, and she immediately set out to restructure it. In order to do this, she changed the emphasis from the company’s goods to its services and managed the purchase (2010) of Affiliated Computer Services, a company that specialized in the outsourcing of business services. However, despite her best attempts, Xerox could not be brought back to life. She initiated the process of separating the company’s service assets into the new independent venture Conduit in 2016, and the transaction was successfully completed the following year in 2017. In 2016, Burns resigned from her position as chief executive officer, and in 2017, she stepped down from her role as chairman of the board.

During this time period, Burns served in a variety of other capacities as well. She was selected to help lead the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education Coalition in 2009 by then-President of the United States Barack Obama. The STEM Education Coalition is a national alliance of more than 1,000 technological organisations working to improve student participation and performance in the aforementioned subject areas through legislative advocacy. She served in this post until 2016. Burns was also a member (from 2010 to 2016) of the President’s Export Council (PEC), which is a group of Labour, industry, and government leaders that advise the president on ways to encourage the expansion of American exports; she headed the committee for the 2015–2016 fiscal year.

In addition to this, Burns was a member of the board of directors for a large number of firms, some of which include Exxon Mobil, Uber, and VEON. In 2018, she was promoted to the roles of chairman and CEO of the latter company, which is a telecommunications operator situated in Amsterdam. In 2017, she was made executive chairman of the company. Nevertheless, she resigned from both positions in the year 2020. In the year after that, Burns released his autobiography titled “Where You Are Is Not Who You Are.” becoming the first female CEO to take over when another woman had already held the position.

Burns served as the committee chair for the 2015–2016 academic year.

Ursula was given the position of Executive Chairman of VEON on March 27th, 2018, after being appointed to the position. Ms. Burns will return to her post as Chairman of the Board after a successor for the current CEO has been chosen and installed, which is why the VEON Supervisory Board is now conducting a search for a new CEO. After being named President in 2007, Burns served as Chairwoman of the Board of Xerox Corporation from 2010 to 2017, as well as Chief Executive Officer from 2009 until 2016, after her appointment in 2007. After beginning his career with Xerox in 1980 as a summer intern, Burns has subsequently gone on to hold executive positions in the company’s corporate services, manufacturing, and product development departments.

During the time that Burns served as Chief Executive Officer, he was instrumental in helping the company transition from a global leader in document technology to the world’s most diversified business services company. Under his leadership, the company expanded its customer base to include businesses and governments of all sizes. Shortly after being chosen CEO of Xerox in 2009, Burns led the company through its most significant acquisition to that point, the $6.4 billion purchase of Affiliated Computer Services.

In 2016, Burns successfully led Xerox through the process of separating the company into two separate, publicly traded companies: Xerox Corporation, which is comprised of the company’s Document Technology and Document Outsourcing businesses, and Conduit Incorporated, which is a business process services company. In 2017, upon her retirement from Xerox, Burns was selected to the position of Chairwoman of VEON, Ltd., an international telecommunication services firm with its headquarters in the Netherlands. In 2018, Burns was also appointed to the post of Chief Executive Officer of VEON, and she continued to serve in both capacities until June of 2020.
