Zach LaVine (American professional basketball player)

LaVine was born to athletic parents in Renton, Washington. His father, Paul, was a professional American football player in the United States Football League (USFL) and the National Football League (NFL), while his mother, CJ, played softball.  After seeing Michael Jordan in Space Jam when he was five years old, LaVine became interested in basketball.

LaVine honed his skills in his father’s backyard, where he was forced to continually imitate the NBA’s Three-Point Shootout.  He went to Bothell High School, which is located in Bothell, Washington. He was their primary ball handler as a point guard. He had grown to 6 ft 3 in (1.91 m) by his junior year, and after his shooting practice, he would practice dunking in his backyard for hours.

He was selected the 2013 Associated Press Washington state player of the year and Washington Mr. Basketball after averaging 28.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game as a senior. He was also named a first-team Parade All-American on a national level. He competed in the Ballis life All-American Game, winning the slam dunk competition.

The Minnesota Timberwolves selected LaVine with the 13th overall choice in the 2014 NBA Draft on June 26, 2014. He was drafted by the Timberwolves for his long-term potential rather than for immediate results. He signed his rookie scale contract with the team on July 8, 2014. During the offseason, he won the slam dunk contest at the Seattle Basketball Pro-Am League while using many of the same moves he used on the court.

Family Life of Zach LaVine:

On June 20, 2012, LaVine verbally committed to play for coach Ben Howland at the University of California, Los Angeles in the 2013 season. LaVine pondered staying in-state and attending the University of Washington until Howland was fired nine months later. LaVine, on the other hand, chose to stay with UCLA and their new coach, Steve Alford, whom he had inherited a fondness for.

The former point guard LaVine drew thoughts of former UCLA Bruin Russell Westbrook’s UCLA beginnings after a great start to 2013–14 as the team’s sixth man, showcasing an amazing display of outside shooting and powerful dunks.  If LaVine declared himself eligible, NBA draught experts began to place him high on their projections for the 2014 NBA draught.

The Westbrook similarities, according to ESPN.com draught expert Chad Ford, contributed to LaVine’s appeal. Ford had him projected as the 10th overall pick at one point, while NBADraft.net had him ranked sixth. During the season, LaVine regularly entered games with Bryce Alford, coach Alford’s freshman son, handling the ball, while starter Kyle Anderson served as the team’s primary facilitator.

LaVine went through a six-game shooting slump that began on January 26, 2014, during which he made just 7 of 36 shots from the field.  During the season, he averaged 9.4 points per game, fourth on the team, and his 48 three-point field goals were the second most by a freshman in school history. LaVine, on the other hand, did not score in double figures in 14 of the remaining 18 games.
