Zara Maria Larsson (/zr lrsn/, Swedish: [sra ln] (About this soundlisten)) is a Swedish singer-songwriter who was born on December 16, 1997. She won the 2008 season of Talang, the Swedish version of the Got Talent format, at the age of ten. [2] Larsson joined with the record company TEN Music Group in 2012, and her debut extended play, Introducing, was released in 2013.

Zara Maria Larsson was born to Agnetha and Anders Larsson at Karolinska University Hospital in Solna, Stockholm County, Sweden.  She told Svenska Dagbladet that she was born “dead” due to a lack of oxygen from the nuchal cord.  Larsson grew raised in the Enskede suburb of Tallkrogen, south of Stockholm. Her father is an officer and her mother is a nurse. Hanna, her younger sister, is her only sibling.

Larsson won 500,000 kronor in the 2008 season of Talang, the Swedish counterpart of Got Talent, at the age of ten. [ Larsson’s first single, “My Heart Will Go On,” which she sang in the final and was originally recorded by Celine Dion, was released later that year and charted for six weeks on the official Swedish Singles Chart, Sverigetopplistan, peaking at number seven.


Larsson got a recording contract with TEN Music Group in 2012 to make her first compilation album.   On December 9, 2012, an unauthorised music video of “Uncover” on YouTube, a static-view video depicting her singing the entire song in the recording studio in one continuous take, leaked the recording, the extended play (EP) Introducing.   On January 21, the five-song EP was published in Scandinavia.

Larsson’s next EP was announced on March 27, 2013, with the release of a music video for “She’s Not Me (Pt. 1)” on YouTube.  Allow Me to Reintroduce Myself, a five-song EP, was released in Scandinavia on July 5, 2013.  On June 25, 2013, the double-single “She’s Not Me” (which included “She’s Not Me (Pt. 1)” and “She’s Not Me (Pt. 2)”) was released. Larsson disclosed on her blog on April 3, 2013.

Larsson released the single “Lush Life” from her upcoming second studio album on June 5, 2015. In Sweden, the song was certified 4 Platinum and earned her second number one single. The song charted in the top five in 18 countries and received Platinum certification in 16 of them.  Larsson released “Never Forget You,” the second song from her duet with British musician MNEK, on July 22, 2015.

Larsson released “Ain’t My Fault,” the third song from her upcoming album, on September 1, 2016.  Larsson was named one of Time’s “30 Most Influential Teens of 2016” on October 22, 2016. On November 11, 2016, she released “I Would Like,” the fourth single from her upcoming album.  In the United Kingdom, it reached number two, and in Sweden, it reached number four. Larsson confirmed in September 2017 that she had begun production on her third studio album, stating in an interview that she had written two new songs with MNEK. Larsson sang at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert for the second time on December 11, 2017, this time with American artist John Legend.  Larsson was named to Forbes’ “30 Under 30 Europe” list in the entertainment category in January 2018.

Fedez, an Italian rapper, singer, and composer, featured her in the song “Holding Out for You” in January 2019.  Larsson’s second song, “Invisible,” was released on the same day as the film Klaus, the first original animated feature film to be distributed on Netflix, on November 8, 2019.  Larsson was featured on Kygo’s single “Like It Is” in March 2020.


She made headlines in her home country in June 2015 when she openly questioned if the Brvalla Festival had any gender perspective at all, given that its promotion and performance lineup were heavily dominated by male musicians. She was also perplexed as to why she wasn’t listed among the main acts, despite being the festival’s most popular musician on Spotify. On the same day, a show of Swedish art was held in Stockholm.
